Managing Editor for Natural Products Marketplace Magazine takes the Coromega Challenge…and Wins!
Who doesn’t love a good success story? Sandy Almendarez, managing editor for Natural Products Marketplace magazine, was kind enough to share hers with us! Sandy embarked on the Coromega 90-Day Challenge and put her omega-3 levels to the test…literally!
In April, Sandy started the 90-Day Challenge by taking the Holman Omega-3 Test to test the level of omega-3s in her blood. Sandy has always been dutiful taking her daily fish oil pills, and it showed! She scored well into the optimal omega-3 range with a 12.1 percent, meaning 12.1 percent of the fatty acids in her blood were omega-3s. Optimal levels are above 8 -9 percent, good levels are between 6 to 8 percent and those below 6 percent are considered omega-3 deficient.
The Coromega 90-Day Challenge tests omega-3 percentage in the blood stream before and after taking a Coromega Omega3 Squeeze pouch every day for 90 days. With such high omega-3 levels, Sandy wondered whether Coromega could improve her omega-3 percentage in the allotted 90 days. In April she blogged:
“Now, I start my three months on the Coromega Omega 3+D Squeeze, which provides 2,000 mg of fish oil, 12 mg of vitamin C and 1,000 UI of vitamin D. The fish oil I’ve been loyal to contains 2.126 mg of fish oil. So I will be getting fewer omega-3s with the Omega 3+D Squeeze, but according to a study published in the June 2009 issue of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, Coromega’s emulsified fish oil is 300-percent more bioavailable than a fish oil, and I won’t get the fish-oil burps .. In three months, I’ll retest and see how it goes. Stay tuned.”
Sandy stopped taking her fish oil pills and fully committed to taking Coromega every day for three months. Fast forward three months later to July, and Sandy reveals her omega-3 test results in a follow-up blog post:
“After three months of Coromega, I’m here to report my omega-3 levels were better. My first test showed levels similar to the Japanese population, but after 90 days of taking Coromega products, the new tests shown I’ve metaphorically packed my bags and am now living among the Greenlanders.”
Sandy admittedly had her doubts about Coromega improving her already-high omega-3 scores, but her scores really did improve! Her high 12.1 omega-3 percentage jumped up to an even higher 13.9 percent! Here’s a breakdown of the rest of her scores before and after the challenge:
| Blood Marker | 3/17/2011 | 7/8/2011 | Optimal Level |
| Omega-3 score (percentage of fatty acids in blood) | 12.1 percent | 13.9 percent | >9 percent |
| Alpha-Linolenic acid (ALA) score | 1.4 percent | 1.4 percent | >1 percent |
| Eicosapentaenoic acid(EPA) | 3.7 percent | 4.5 percent | >3 percent |
| Docosapentaenoic acid(DPA) | 1.9 percent | 2.2 percent | >1 percent |
| Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) | 5.1 percent | 5.3 percent | >4 percent |
| Omega-6 to omega-3 ratio | 2.5:1 | 2.2:1 | <5:1 |
